Lady Stangs off to another fast start but…

October 26th, 2011 Leave a comment Go to comments

WNMU is always tough at home and they hung in with the Lopes of Grand Canyon in non-conference action but couldn’t pull out the win at the end of the night. Behind the strong play of Heather Rux, Ziona Verhulsdonk, Jordan Johnston and Alyssa Melhack, the Lady Stangs got off to a fast start and won the first set fairly easily 25-18. But GCU would return the favor in the 2nd set getting out to a 4-0 lead but the home team would tie the game and it would go back and forth for a while until the Lopes pulled away to win 25-20. While it looked like the purple and gold were going to change the pattern, which I guess they did, by winning the 3rd set after Grand Canyon jumped out to an early lead, the Lady Stangs got a spark from Angelina Pulu and despite being down 24-20 came back to win the next six points and take the set. That was all for the Lady Stangs as dropped the next two sets. It was close but that doesn’t get you anything. The Stangs travel to Grand Junction returning to RMAC play at Colorado Mesa Friday at 7 p.m.
