Coach Kent Beatty prepares for a lot of changes in the upcoming season and in WNMU golf but one thing’s for sure, his teams will be very competitive in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Coach Beatty will see a lot of new faces on both teams and the RMAC will move to the a different region in the NCAA which will have the Stangs competing with schools out of Texas and Oklahoma in the post season. In the pre-season balloting amongst RMAC coaches, WNMU’s men’s team finished 4th, receiving 2 first place votes and the Lady Stangs were chosen as the favorites to win the RMAC, despite getting only 3 first place votes. The Mustang men finished 2nd in the conference last season as did the Lady Stangs.

Bianca Dominguez, So. from Deming NM, was selected to the Preseason All-Conference Team. Dominguez looks to improve on a solid debut after posting a 90 scoring average in her first collegiate campaign. The Lady Stangs’ roster will be tight this year as perennial number one player, Faylyn Beyale, Sr Fruitland NM, suffered a knee injury that will keep her off the course for most of the fall season.

The men’s team will also be reloading with several new faces joining the roster including local area golfers Brendan Shannon, Silver City and Buzz Perales of Deming. Both had stellar high school careers and expect to see lots of playing time as they bring that success to WNMU. The men open their season September 17th at the RMAC #1 tournament hosted by Colorado Mesa University. The women will open the same weekend also at the RMAC #1 hosted by Adams State College in Alamosa.
